Police identify 5 victims killed in Missaukee County shootings
Authorities have identified the five victims of the Aug. 14 shootings in Northern Michigan's Missaukee County, and say the suspect knew all of those who were killed or injured by the gunfire.
Michigan State Police say those found dead at one home on South LaChance Road in Lake Township were Shance McGowan, 45; Amanda Everitt, 40; and Eric Thomas, 16. A 13-year-old girl, who has not been identified by police, was injured at this home and remains in a hospital in stable condition. Officials later confirmed to CBS News Detroit that the 13-year-old at this home was the person who called 911.
The man found dead at a second home in Missaukee County was John Schwartz, 53.
The woman found dead in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake was Heather Schwartz, 39. Her body was found near that of Chad Hickman, 39, whom troopers previously identified as the suspect.
State police said they went to the LaChance Road home after getting a report of a shooting the morning of Aug. 14. That's where they found the three dead people and the injured teenager.
Hickman fled the scene before police arrived, circumstances that resulted in a search effort involving MSP's K-9 and aviation teams, along with the efforts of other law enforcement and local authorities. The Missaukee County Sheriff's Office told local residents that Hickman was considered "armed and dangerous," as the search efforts were underway.
