Microsoft Serves As Tech Partner For Free Youth Tech Camp

DETROIT -- The Michigan Technical Academy will host its Powered To Dream Youth Tech and Innovation Camp Monday, July 29 through Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 19940 Mansfield St. in Detroit.

The free camp, open to youth ages 9-16, will feature workshops on robotics, rocketry, and web development taught by Detroit Labs, software developers.

Camp technology partner, Microsoft, will host an innovation area featuring products from its new store including: Xbox 360, Surface tablets, phones and more. In addition, Microsoft will provide swag bags for each camper.

"We are excited about Microsoft's support of the tech camp," says Jeremy Gilliam, MTA Superintendent. "Youth must be exposed to programs that emphasize science, technology, engineering and mathematics as a way to catapult them into our emerging global society."

Featuring the "Power Surge Hour," the week-long camp presents guest speakers who will discuss their passion for technology. Speakers include: Erika Carlson, co-founder of Girl Develop It-Detroit and Marlin Page, founder, Sisters Code.

MTA will give campers t-shirts, prizes, and giveaways. Breakfast and lunch will be provided daily. The camp is part of MTA's "Connecting with the Community" event series, a summer initiative providing education resources to parents and youth.
