Michigan Woman Arrested After Being Rescued From Van Sinking In River

CASEVILLE, Mich. (AP) -- A 34-year-old Michigan woman has been arrested on several charges after two men rescued her from a van that plunged into a river.

Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says 42-year-old Chad Griffin and 66-year-old Jesse Ross heard the van crash through a sign and fence about 5 a.m. Saturday before dropping about 20 feet into the Pigeon River in Caseville.

Hanson says the van was nearly totally submerged. The men heard the Caseville woman screaming and freed her by breaking out the rear windows.

She was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital and then arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence and driving with a suspended license. The van also didn't have insurance or a Michigan registration.

Caseville is in Michigan's northern Thumb area, near Lake Huron.
