Michigan Matters: Legalizing Recreational Marijuana: a Good Idea?
Southfield (CBS Detroit) - With Michigan voters heading to the polls, Proposal 1, which asks whether to legalize recreational marijuana for adults, will gain much attention in the next few weeks.
Which is why MICHIGAN MATTERS took a deep dive into the ballot measure with folks on both sides of the issue as they talked with Carol Cain, Senior Producer/Host of the CBS 62 show which airs this Sunday at 11:30 am.
Rick Steves, well-known travel writer, and TV show host traveled from Washington State to appear with Cain to talk about why he supports the measure. His reasons might surprise people.
If approved, Michigan would be the 10th state to legalize sales of recreational marijuana.
Then Scott Greenlee, President of Healthy and Productive Michigan, who is a well-known name in Michigan Republican circles, appears with Cain to explain why he is against Proposal 1.
Finally the roundtable of Josh Hovey, Communications Director of Coalition to Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol, which put the ballot measure before Michiganders, Randy Richardville, former Michigan Senate Majority Leader who is actively working against Proposal 1, and Evan Pilot, Financial Comptroller, The Reef, which dispenses medical marijuana in Detroit, appear with Cain for a boisterous conversation about the pros and cons of the measure.
They talked about the potential impact on young people, the penal system and the economy.
And they talked about what impact it would have on medical marijuana, which was approved by Michigan voters in 2008.
Watch MICHIGAN MATTERS Sunday at 11:30 on CBS 62.
