Michigan man accused of assaulting girlfriend's brother with weightlifting bar while he slept

A Macomb County man is accused of hitting his girlfriend's brother several times in the head with a weightlifting bar while he slept, prosecutors said.

Jevonn Green, 46, of Chesterfield Township, is charged with assault with intent to murder, second-offense aggravated domestic violence and assault with a dangerous weapon. Green is being charged as a fourth-offense habitual offender.

Prosecutors say that on March 29, Green returned to a home he shares with his girlfriend and 61-year-old brother. While the victim was sleeping on a couch, prosecutors allege Green hit the victim on the head multiple times with a weightlifting bar. Green then told his girlfriend, who was sleeping in another room, to call 911, according to prosecutors.

The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition with a decompressed skull fracture and a brain bleed, officials said.

Green was arraigned on Thursday and given a $250,000 bond. If he posts bond, Green must wear a GPS tether and must take three drug tests weekly. He also cannot return to the home where the alleged assault took place and cannot consume drugs or alcohol, prosecutors said.

Green will undergo a psychiatric evaluation at the Macomb County Jail, according to prosecutors.

"It is extremely troubling that a man was allegedly assaulted while he slept, completely defenseless. Domestic violence is not limited to romantic partners," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said.

Green has a probable cause conference on April 16, prosecutors said, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for April 23.
