Memorial Walk For Teen-Dead From Complications Of Obesity
DETROIT (WWJ) - Hundreds of people gathered Saturday in memory of a local teen who died from complications of obesity.
"The Get Fit For Change, Walk Against Childhood Obesity" was in memory of 17-year old Tinnay White of Detroit who died a couple of years ago of a massive heart attack . . .while at the dinner table.
Sharon Dumas-Pugh is founder of the non-profit "Full and Fabulous", a group the educates plus size women and teen girls on healthy life styles. The group hosted Saturday's walk.
"Tinnay was special. She came to program when she was 11. And I would explain to the parents that it was important that they changed her eating habits and that they had to share in that," says Dumas-Pugh.
"At the time, when she came at 11, I would have to have two kids in front of her to pull her and two kids behind to push her, just to get her to walk around the block," Dumas-Pugh says.
