McGary, Robinson III Will Continue Careers At Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball freshmen forwards Mitch McGary (Chesterton, Ind./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) and Glenn Robinson III (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) announced today (Thursday, April 18) they will both continue their collegiate playing career with the Wolverine basketball program.
"After gathering all the information and sitting down with my family, I have decided to continue my career at the University of Michigan," said McGary. "There is still plenty for me to work on as both a player and person. Michigan is the right place for me to continue growing and I am excited about what lies ahead. In a short period of time, this university, this community and all the Wolverine fans have embraced me and I am truly thankful for that. I look forward to representing Michigan with my teammates and to becoming a leader of this team."
"I will be staying at Michigan after careful thought and consideration," said Robinson III. "This past season was an unbelievable journey and a great learning experience for me. I still have a lot of areas to develop in my game and I am looking forward to doing that at Michigan with this coaching staff and my teammates."
"It was important we gave Glenn and Mitch, and their families, as much time as they needed to make the best and most informed decision they could with all the information they gathered," said U-M Head Coach John Beilein. "We are excited to see them coming back. Both are a joy to coach and their enthusiasm, work ethic and passion for Michigan is second to none. They improved throughout the season and have only scratched the surface of their potential as players and leaders."
Both McGary and Robinson played in all 39 games this season, setting the U-M all-time record for games played in a season along with sophomore Trey Burke (Columbus, Ohio/Northland HS) and freshman Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/St. Marks [Mass.]). The Wolverine duo earned a combined four Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, as each garnered two apiece during the season.
McGary was instrumental in U-M's NCAA Tournament run, averaging 14.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and shooting 67.8 percent from the field. In addition to scoring a career-best 25 points against Kansas (March 29) and hauling in a career-best 14 rebounds against VCU (March 23), McGary recorded three of his five season double-doubles during the tournament. He earned All-Tournament honors in the Final Four as well for his efforts in the South Regional. Overall this season, he averaged 7.3 points while leading U-M with 6.3 rebounds per game. He posted 12 games in double figure scoring and eight games with double-digit rebounds.
Robinson was one of two Wolverines to start all 39 games and was recognized with selection to the Kyle Macy Freshman All-America team. Robinson was named All-Big Ten honorable mention by the media and to the Big Ten's All-Freshman team. He averaged 11.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 steals and shot 57.2 percent from the field in his first season. Robinson recorded 22 double figure scoring games, with five 20-plus point games. He had three 10-plus rebounding games, helping him record two double-doubles.
