Man, Teen Plead Guilty In Fatal Beating Of Homeless Flint Veteran

FLINT, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A teenage boy and a young man have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and torture in the slaying of a 57-year-old homeless veteran in Flint two years ago.

Authorities say that Branden T. Harris — who was charged as an adult — was 15 and Peris A. Dorsette was 20 when they attacked Gary Nagy. They entered the pleas Wednesday, when they were scheduled to go on trial in Genesee County Circuit Court on first-degree murder charges.

The Flint Journal reports that witnesses say that Harris and Dorsette saw Nagy sleeping under a trash container near a shuttered school and began taunting him.

Gary Nagy's body was found July 30, 2013, outside the shuttered McKinley Middle School by a bus driver who was practicing maneuvers in the school's parking lot.

The Flint Journal reports that witnesses say that Harris and Dorsette saw Nagy sleeping under a trash container and began taunting him about being homeless before attacking him.

The beating lasted 10 to 15 minutes, according to court testimony.

A military funeral held for Nagy — who died of head trauma, according to an autopsy — included a 21-gun salute.

Judge Archie Hayman scheduled sentencing for Harris and Dorsett for May 11. They face up to life in prison.
