Man grabs knife inside Inkster Dollar Tree store, stabs female customer, police say
A 62-year-old woman was hurt on Monday after Inkster police say she was stabbed by a man inside a Dollar Tree store.
Police say witnesses reported the attack appeared unprovoked at the store near Cherry Hill and Inkster roads. The 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
Police say the suspect allegedly grabbed a knife from inside the store and approached the woman, stabbing her multiple times. The woman was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition.
The names of the victim and the suspect have not been released.
"This incident is a disturbing act of violence, and we want our residents to know that violence of this nature will not be tolerated in the City of Inkster. Every person should be able to shop, work, and live in our community without fear of becoming the victim of a random act of violence," Police Chief Tamika Jenkins said in a news release.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family as she receives medical treatment. We also commend the responding officers and those who assisted at the scene."
The investigation is ongoing.
Police have not released any additional information at this time.
