Macomb Re-Launches Adopt-A-County Road Initiative
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - Officials say keeping Macomb County's Roads clean is now a top priority.
"We want to renew the interest in people cleaning up their own communities," Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said when debuting a plan that would get citizens, community groups and businesses involved in the cleanup of 1,700 miles of county roads.
Macomb County's Adopt-A-County Road program was started over 30 years ago. However, support for the initiative has diminished in recent years. Hackel said the county will re-launch the program, offering up new spans for sponsorship and again enforcing the rules for those who have already sponsored a road.
"There's an opportunity for them to own a span of highway to keep it clean. The committment is at least twice a year, but we want to extend that to more than just twice a year; have them own that roadway," Hackel said.
