Local Builder Provides Help For Victim Of Flesh-Eating Bacteria

BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - Flesh-eating bacteria survivor Aimee Copeland, who underwent a quadruple amputation, will soon be able to continue rehab at home thanks to a gift from Bloomfield Hills-based builder Pulte Group.

"Amy's story has really captured the hearts of a lot of people -- you know, not just locally in Atlanta, but throughout the country," said Pulte spokeswoman Valerie Dolenga. " And when we received a call to see if we could help in any way, there really was no hesitation."

Dolenga said the company will build, at no cost to the family, a 2,000 square foot two-story addition to their Georgia home to accommodate Copeland, whose leg, foot and both hands had to be amputated.

"It will have sort of a master suite. It will have a study space so that she can continue with her education in psychology. It will have a fitness room so that she can continue with her rehabilitation efforts. And it will also have an elevator, so that she can access the existing potion of the home," she said.

The 24-year-old woman contracted the rare infection after suffering a deep cut in a fall two months ago.
