Lions CB Alphonso Smith Eager To Grasp Duties

Lions cornerback Alphonso Smith has abnormally large hands for a guy 5-foot-9, 190 pounds. He has genetics to thank for those hefty mitts and claims his grandmother has bigger hands than he does.

Smith's hands came in, uh, handy on Sunday in Green Bay when he went up high and snatched an interception away from Packers receiver Greg Jennings in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Packers.

It was the second interception this season for Smith, who the Lions traded for Sept. 4.

Smith, who's been playing nickel corner, also had an interception against the Vikings in Week 3.

But it's Sunday's pick that might put him on the field permanently at right corner.
