Kim Cattrall Film Premieres In Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - The stars will be out, Tuesday night, in Birmingham. The Palladium 12 is hosting a premiere of the movie "Meet Monica Velour," starring Kim Cattrall of "Sex and the City" fame.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with Cattrall who said the role was one she couldn't pass up.
"To have a role this good, written for a woman of my age, is really rare. To me, it was a quintessential American film; independent American film."
Cattrall tells WWJ that plenty of locals were employed on the shoot.
This amazing crew -- a lot of them local hires, and actors who were also in the film, who had nice, nice roles -- not just walk-ons or extras. It was really refreshing," she said.
She said she took in the some of the sights while filming in Michigan back in 2008.
"I would, on days off, when I wasn't shopping for my character's strip clothing, I went to Cranbrook to the gardens, which were absolutely beautiful, and the campuses. I really got to know so much more about the state of Michigan," Cattrall.
Cattrall said she gained more than 20-pounds to play the role of an aging adult film star who meets one of her biggest fans -- an awkward teenage boy.
