Join The Undead At A Zombie Walk

By Christy Strawser
Looking for a place to strut your favorite ghoulish costume? Visit Mount Clemens. You'll be dead-on.
The Anton Art Center is hosting the first annual Macomb County Zombie Walk at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. It's the first event of its kind in the area, and Anton Executive Director Jennifer Callans has high hopes for it.
"There are zombie walks in other cities, but I haven't heard of one in metro Detroit," Callans said. "It's so easy, slap on some makeup and become a zombie. It's fun, it's a way to get people together."
So, what exactly is a zombie walk? Think about groups of costumed zombies (well, hopefully they're only in costume) staggering behind a hearse and a kazoo "corpse band."
"Our judges are going to use both costume and behavior during the walk, so they'll be paying attention to who's really 'embodying' a zombie," Callans said.
Prizes include a package with a DVD copy of "Night Of The Living Dead," a zombie stuffed animal and an Anton Art Center gift certificate.
Participants must purchase a wristband earlier in the evening at the Anton Art Center in downtown Mount Clemens, on the southeast corner of Southbound Gratiot and Macomb Place. Adult wristbands for those 21 and older cost $5 and can be redeemed at a participating bar or restaurant for a Zombie Drink Special. Wristbands for those ages 15-20 cost $3.
The Zombie Walk is a fundraiser for the Anton Art Center, which provides educational programs for youth and adults in Macomb County.
Not quite zombie-ready? Visit the free Zombie Makeup Workshop at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Used on New Books, 36 New Street in downtown Mount Clemens. No reservation is required.
