Is The End Of The 'Brain Drain' Near?
DETROIT (WWJ) - Recent graduates who have left the state for work may be heading back. HiredMyWay.com Co-founder Matt Mosher says there are jobs in Michigan and a lot of them.
Speaking before a crowd Thursday morning at a WWJ Business breakfast at Lawrence Tech University, Mosher said many of the people who want those jobs are young and looking for work on his website.
"What we're seeing, in reflection through our website, is actually a tremendous amount of people from out-of-state and it tends to be a younger demographic that are now applying to those jobs," Mosher said.
"We've actually set up kind of a focus group within our company and are reaching out to those young people and saying, hey, why did you apply? And they're say the word's out, Detroit's cool, we want to come to Detroit," he said.
"It's not an issue with jobs. It's an issue with connecting that gap between talent and jobs, and that's what we're seeing. But we're seeing a positive increase in those people coming back," Mosher said.
Mosher gives credit in part to one local businessman in particular, Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert, and all the buildings he's buying up in the City of Detroit.
