Improved Health Has Tigers Heading In Right Direction
Things may be lining up for the underachieving Tigers to make a long-awaited move in the American League Central.
Detroit has gone 6-3 while winning its last three series, and with key injured players beginning to trickle back, the Tigers (32-34) could start playing winning baseball for the first time since they were a heady 9-3.
The return of Doug Fister could stabilize the rotation. He pitched six shutout innings Saturday against the Rockies in his first start after missing 18 days due to a left side muscle strain.
Fister works fast and throws strikes.
"That's a confidence thing for our team," manager Jim Leyland said. "They know they're not sitting around watching people walking guys."
