Hundreds Line Up For Detroit Job Fair

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroiters were lined up by the hundreds for the start of Tuesday's job fair downtown. Dozens of companies with over 2,000 jobs are on hand.

Job seekers like Yolanda Jones like the fact there are resources available on site to get you ready.

"Sometimes people come to interviews and they really don't know what to do. They even have [resources] available to you, things available that normally you wouldn't expect when you go for an interview," said Jones. "And they're going to do interviews on the spot. I think that's a wonderful thing, too."

Also attending is Cyneethia-Joanne Taylor of Detroit, who told WWJ's Ron Dewey she's been out of work the past four years, and hopes to find a job in customer service.

"Because you can't just get down and just stay, you know, just looking at four walls," she said. "You've gotta get out there and keep going the best you can. It's hard, but if you stay in prayer and keep the faith, eventually things will follow."

Congressman Hansen Clarke says the job fair is part of the Congressional Black Caucus' "For the People" jobs initiative and will have employers ready to hire. His best advice: come prepared.

"We're gonna have a bunch of employers who are ready to hire people. We're gonna have job training and resume building workshops, so people can be in the best position possible to get a job and be qualified for a job."

The job fair now open until 5 p.m., Tuesday, at the Wayne County Community College District's downtown campus on Fort Street.
