Muscat named associate vice president of development and alumni affairs: The Wayne State University School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Tracy Muscat to the new position of associate vice president of development and alumni affairs. Muscat assumed her duties effective Monday, March 12. She has served WSU's main campus Office of University Development as associate vice president for development since March 2009. The position of associate vice president of development and alumni affairs was created to reflect the significant role the School of Medicine has in the university's overall fund-raising program. Historically, nearly half of all university giving is to the School of Medicine. The associate vice president's leadership will be critical to the school's future success. Muscat brings to the position a strong and successful background in health care. Before coming to Wayne State she was vice president for fund development at Trinity Health-St. Joseph Mercy Oakland for nearly five years. During her tenure, she created and implemented a comprehensive major gift strategy, resulting in millions of dollars in contributions. Her previous work history includes positions with CCS Fundraising, Hospice of Michigan, Detroit Public Television and Angela Hospice. Muscat received a bachelor of arts in professional and technical writing from Madonna University and a master of business administration from the University of Phoenix. She is a graduate of the New Detroit Multicultural Leadership program as well as Leadership Michigan and Leadership Oakland.

MichBio Announces Wendy Wendel As Director, Marketing & Communications: Ann Arbor-based MichBio, the state's life sciences industry association, announces the appointment of Wendy Wendel as the director of marketing and communications. In this role, she will oversee the planning and execution of the association's marketing, communications, public relations and social media efforts. Prior to joining MichBio, Wendel served as the director of marketing for The Engineering Society of Detroit, a multi-disciplinary society located in Southfield that unites engineering, scientific and allied professions to enhance professional development. In this role, she was responsible for marketing and promoting association programs to current and prospective members. Subsequently, she held the position of manager of marketing and communications for United Solar, a solar manufacturer based in Auburn Hills. In this position, she managed day-to-day marketing and communications initiatives, including public and media relations, collateral, Web sites, agency management and social media engagement. Wendel's diverse background includes more than 15 years working in the automotive, engineering, insurance, machine vision, solar, and time and attendance industries. Her experience also includes five years working for local non-profit associations and three years serving Detroit-area public relations/advertising agencies. Wendel holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and public relations from Madonna University in Livonia, and she is a member of the Women in Communications – Detroit Chapter and the International Association of Business Communicators – Detroit Chapter.
