Internet2 names new CEO: Ann Arbor-based Internet2 announced the appointment of H. David Lambert as its new president and CEO. Lambert brings more than 30 years of distinguished experience in the advanced research and education networking and information technology fields. Lambert will replace Internet2's current president and CEO Douglas Van Houweling effective July 13.
The announcement of Lambert's appointment comes on the heels of the news last week that Internet2 and several partners have been awarded a $62.5 million grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration's Broadband Technology Opportunities Program. The grant will provide funding to construct a national infrastructure called the United States Unified Community Anchor Network (U.S. UCAN) that will, in partnership with regional and state research and education networks, connect America's community anchor institutions to enable the use of life-changing applications not possible with today's typical Internet service. Lambert currently serves as vice president for information services and CIO at Georgetown University, where for the past 12 years he has successfully moved the university forward in the strategic application of information technology across a wide range of university programs and services. His leadership efforts focused on deployment of an advanced technology infrastructure, modern information systems, and responsive technology support services. ambert is a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic Crossroads, a regional advanced Internet consortium, which provides critical connectivity for the research and education community and for many government agencies in the Greater Washington D.C. region. Lambert has also had active involvement in other national higher education technology initiatives such as the Common Solutions Group. Prior to joining Georgetown, Lambert served as vice president for IT at Cornell University from 1994 through 1997 and as director of network services from 1989 through 1993. As director of network services, Lambert was responsible for networking and communications technologies and services for the university and for Cornell National Supercomputer Facility. X-Rite Appoints Iris Mangelschots President, APAC Region: Kentwood-based X-Rite Inc. (Nasdaq: XRIT) announced that it had appointed Iris Mangelschots to the newly created position of president of the Asia Pacific region. Mangelschots will be responsible for all aspects of the company's activities in Japan, China, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Mangelschots previously served as senior vice president for global sales and marketing for X-Rite. Prior to that assignment, Mangelschots served as vice president of X-Rite's Imaging and Media business unit, having joined X-Rite as part of the Gretag-Macbeth (Amazys Holding AG) acquisition in July 2006. During her tenure at Gretag-Macbeth, she was vice president and general manager for the Digital Imaging Business Unit. Before joining Gretag-Macbeth, Mangelschots held key positions at Rockwell Automation AG, a market leader in industrial automation and at Cerberus Corp., a market leader in electronic safety management systems. A native of Belgium, Mangelschots holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Zurich, Switzerland and a Master of Sciences degree in physics from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. Zellner named business development manager at MMIC: Midland's MidMichigan Innovation Center has grown significantly since it was formed in 2005, and now has more than 30 on-site and virtual tenants who rely on the organization to help these entrepreneurs and start-up companies develop into the businesses that will become Michigan's future. Building on the success to-date, Bill Moneypenny, MidMichigan Innovation Center CEO, has added a new role within the organization, that of business development director. Into this role Moneypenny has appointed a strong leader, connected business person and active member of the regional community, Debra Zellner. She has more than 30 years of global business development and commercial experience in the specialty chemicals industry as an employee of Dow Corning. Her career involved leadership roles in global product, market, and new business development, as well as issue management, opportunity assessment and key customer management. She held leadership roles in various industries, including personal care, household care, health care, government contracting, paints and coatings, textiles and sealants. Zellner holds three patents, is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. She earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Bowling Green State University and an MBA from Central Michigan University. In her new role, Zellner reports to Moneypenny and is responsible for implementing MidMichigan Innovation Center's sales and marketing strategy, focusing on virtual tenant support and developing a network of incubators across the mid-Michigan region. C/D/H gets new tech consultant: The Grand Rapids technology firm C/D/H announced that Jason Shroll has joined the company as a technology consultant at its Grand Rapids location. Shroll brings to C/D/H 14 years of networking and systems engineering experience. Before joining C/D/H, Shroll worked as a senior systems engineer and team lead at a technology firm in Grand Rapids. Shroll's experience includes architecting and deploying Microsoft Exchange, centralized storage, virtualization and Citrix solutions. Shroll is proficient in modern project planning and has been consistently recognized for his team and customer communication skills. Shroll has achieved numerous professional certifications, including VMware Certified Professional, Storage Technologist Associate, Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrator and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. Shroll continues to build his technology expertise and is currently working toward becoming a Microsoft Certified IT Professional in Exchange Server 2010. Anderson takes over as director of UM Detroit Center: Addell Austin Anderson has been named the new director of the University of Michigan's Detroit Center, a hub for research, civic partnerships and student outreach in the state's largest urban center. Anderson, who previously led the Michigan AmeriCorps Partnership at UM's Ginsberg Center since 2003, began her new position July 1. She succeeds Roger Doster, who has retired after directing the center since it opened in 2005. Lester Monts, UM senior vice provost for academic affairs, said Anderson is an ideal person to direct the 10,500-square-foot center as it enters a new phase of collaborative service to UM and the Detroit community. Prior to joining the Ginsberg Center, Anderson was executive director of the Woodward Heritage Organization, which focused on economic development of the city's Woodward Avenue corridor. She also managed community programs and special events for the city's 300th anniversary in 2001, and has been an adjunct professor in the humanities department at Wayne County Community College since 2002. Anderson received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Kalamazoo College, a master's in public policy from UM and a doctorate in theatre from Michigan State University. The Detroit Center is an interdisciplinary partnership of 17 UM schools, colleges, centers and offices. It contains offices and space for classes, meetings, exhibitions, lectures and collaborative work, and provides a base for students and faculty working on Detroit projects. The UM Office of Undergraduate Admissions also has an office at the Detroit Center, from which it spearheads outreach efforts to Detroit students, exposing them to the educational opportunities available at UM and working with those seeking to attend the university.
ASTI Environmental adds staffer: ASTI Environmental, celebrating its 25th year of delivering environmental business solutions to commercial, industrial and governmental clients, has added Earl Batenburg to its staff as the firm's environmental compliance specialist. In this role he will be responsible for using engineering and quantitative analysis skills to solve client problems related to current air, water and waste management regulations. Batenburg currently holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering from Michigan Technological University.
