Highland Park Residents Upset Over Proposal Which Could Add Thousands To Water Bills
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - A heated meeting in Highland Park city council chambers Thursday evening.
Residents tell WWJ that they are upset over a proposal that would add thousands of dollars to their water bills to cover the costs of money owed to the Detroit Water department.
Kursheed Shaffii says he's been told residents could see a $10,000 dollar water bill.
"You're going to give me another bill for $10,000 on top of the $5,000 water bill that you gave me already," said Shaffii.
The city of Detroit sued Highland Park regarding unpaid water bills. Highland Park lost the suit.
No comment from the mayor.
City council said no action has been taken, but more meetings are planned as the city tries to resolve the issue of the debt to Detroit.
