Go Girls!

A new program is trying to get more girls to go into Math, Science, Engineering, and Technology.    Wayne State University is again launching its program called Go  Girl, which stands for Gaining Options-Girls Investigate Real Life.  Wayne State Professor Sally Roberts is the faculty advisor for Go Girl, which is aimed at boosting math skills and confidence in 7th grade girls.

"Unfortunately, it still continues to be a challenge to keep girls interested in math and science," said Roberts.   "We are seeing that girls are doing better in course work, especially in high school. But where the drop off is apparent is in higher education and the corporate world, in fields like physics and computer science."

Roberts says the program also gives the girls a taste of what college life is like.

"They tour the campus, they go into pharmacy and allied health, the library and the dorms, to feel what it's like to be in college."

The Ten week Saturday program kicks off January 22nd.
