Full Contact Co-Host Matthew G. Davis Bio
No one in Michigan combines as much legal, governmental, and communications experience as Matthew G. Davis.
Davis' professional career started by spending approximately 12 years as a reporter at various newspapers, including the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press, where he covered city and county government, and the Detroit Free Press, where he covered state government in Lansing.
In 1997, former Michigan Gov. John Engler appointed Davis to lead the communications office of the Michigan Department of Corrections. While at the MDOC, he devised and managed the creation of the Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS), which allows online searches for prisoner, parolee, and probationer information. He also drafted the department's policies (still in use) on media access to prisoners and prisons
In addition, Davis is a practicing attorney and an associate at The Witte Law Offices in Lansing. He focuses his practice on campaign finance, election, and appellate law as well as general civil litigation primarily for conservative and libertarian organizations. He is a contributor to The Michigan View and is a vocal proponent of civil rights.
Davis holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from The Ohio State University and a J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
