Fister Looks Like His 2011 Self Again
RHP Doug Fister has begun to duplicate the effectiveness he showed a year ago after coming over from Seattle. The 6-foot-8 right-hander gave up just one run -- to the first Toronto batter -- over eight innings Sunday to improve to 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA since the All-Star break.
"Doug did a great job of keeping them off balance all day long," manager Jim Leyland said. "He mixed his pitches extremely well. Three-run homers and outstanding pitching performances, they usually work out pretty good. He kept them off balance with his slow stuff and his cutter, and running the ball inside a little bit."
Fister has struck out 31 and walked five in those four starts, holding opponents to a .202 batting average. Fister was 8-1 after being acquired from Seattle at the trade deadline a year ago.
