Film Fest With A Focus On Food

DETROIT (WWJ) - A rather unique film festival is being held at Eastern Market in Detroit this week. The festival, being presented by Slow Food Detroit, is called the "Do Something Reel" film festival. It will be held on Thursday, June 9.

According to a news release, the festival "will feature two thought-provoking films that focus on food, farming, environmental issues and everyday people with the greater vision of making the world a better place while making a difference."

The screening kicks off with the 6 p.m. showing of "Lunch Line," a film that follows the story of six kids from a tough Chicago neighborhood who set out to fix school lunch.

"Lunch Line" will be followed by the 8 p.m. showing of the film "Urban Roots." This film tells the story of a group of Detroiters working to fulfill their vision for locally-grown and farmed food in a city where it can be challenging to find healthy food, but fast food can be found without much effort.

Both films will be presented at Eastern Market in shed 3, located at 2934 Russell Street. A $5.00 donation at the door is suggested. Organizers say the donation will support the efforts of The Boggs Educational Center School Farm.
