Fiat Launches Interesting iPad App.

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) Fiat is hoping to use the iPad to introduce its brand to the United States.

To support the launch of the Fiat 500, the brand has unveiled an iPad app called "FIAT Source."

"We need to make ourselves known," says Fiat marketing representative Josh Donnelly. "This helps people see who we are, why we're here, what we believe in."

Donnelly said it's important that the app be more than just an advertisement for the vehicle. So in addition to information about the 500, and lots of glossy photos, they've also included a magazine style section, with information about topics Fiat feels are important to the lifestyle of its target customers.

"The first issue, the current issue is 'art and design," he said. "That's why we have these different artists. Then we'll move into things like fashion, travel, music and so on."

They plan to change the content every three months, Donnelly says.

Auto companies have been looking for unique ways to market their products. They have seen venues like the iPad, and social media sites as ways to connect directly with potential customers.

After a thirty year hiatus, Fiat returned to the United States with the 500 subcompact. A convertible version has just reached the market.
