Ferndale Aided By Giant Generators During Power Outage

DETROIT (WWJ) - Fifteen thousand customers remain without power across Metro Detroit. Two thousand of them are in Ferndale. DTE is using two giant generators as a band-aid while they continue to repair problems with the underground cable system.

DTE's Vince Dow says 99 percent of the electrical grid is currently up and running:

"Our system held up well, we have 2.1 million customers and yesterday was the peak, we had about 30,000 out, so just a little over one percent were out on the worst day," said Dow.

One of generators is humming away from an elementary school on Rosewood Street.  Another is being synced to the system as we speak from a power substation on 9 mile.  Each generator will supply enough electricity to 300 residents.  DTE says they hope to have the power restored to everyone by tomorrow morning.
