Ex-Detroiters Encouraged To Help Sculpt City's Future

DETROIT (AP) - An invitation-only group of former Detroiters will return home to give input in reshaping the city's future.

"The Detroit Homecoming" is a 3-day conference that starts Sept. 17 and is tied to the city's hoped-for emergence from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history.

Organizers say they hope to attract 150 to 200 expatriates.

Philanthropist Eli Broad is among prominent ex-Detroiters who will participate in one of the discussion sessions. Mayor Mike Duggan also will take part in the event.

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett will talk about the city during a Sept. 18 session. General Motors chief executive Mary Barra will discuss the automaker's commitment to revitalization on Sept. 19.

Major foundations, economic development groups, corporations and others are putting together the event.
