GVSU Hosting Panel On EVs, Advanced Batteries: A panel of community members, including Grand Rapids mayor George Heartwell, will discuss how the electric vehicle and advanced battery industries are affecting job growth and the economy in West Michigan. The event will take place at Grand Valley State University and is free and open to the public. "Get Plugged In" will take place Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in room 330 of the Kennedy Hall of Engineering at Grand Valley State University's Pew Grand Rapids Campus, 401 W. Fulton St. Besides Heartwell, the panel will include Mike Helsel, Grand Valley student and member of the Electric Car Club; Greg Northrup, president of West Michigan Strategic Alliance; Bob Synk, community member and owner of an electric vehicle; and Rob Ozar of the Michigan Public Service Commission's Plug-in Vehicle Preparedness Taskforce. The event is sponsored by Grand Valley's School of Engineering, Michigan League of Conservation Voters and Built by Michigan.

GVSU Career Fair To Attract 120 Employers: More than 120 employers and 1,200 job seekers are expected at the annual Fall Career Fair, sponsored by Grand Valley State University's Career Services. The free event is set for Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. at DeVos Place Convention Center, 303 Monroe Ave. Pre-registration is not required; express check-in is available by providing a current resume. All college students and professionals with degrees can attend and meet more than 120 employers. Companies will be seeking people to fill internships and permanent professional positions. Examples of participating employers are Consumer Energy, Flagstar Bank, Gentex Corp., Holland Hospital and Perrigo Co.
