Eric Thomas: All I Want For Christmas Is A 10 Win Season

Is it better to be lucky than good? Are the Lions fortunate or are they a good team on the rise? Is Matt Stafford an elite quarterback and can he be the franchise QB? Can Suh mop up the mistakes?

Let me know when you are done with your irrelevant questions. Flap your jaws all you like because I am not listening. Ask those questions, but know know that when you do so you are just making stupid noises with your boring mouth to an audience that doesn't care.

One win and they are in. If the Lions win on Saturday, they will not just clinch their first playoff berth since 1999, but they also have their first 10 win season since 1995. Oh, and by the way, they are a much better team than in 1995.

Back then we didn't know Scott Mitchell was awful and we got to play the Bucs twice a year when they were the worst team ever. They had the cakiest schedule this side of cake and they couldn't pull off a road win against a quality opponent.

I watched every snap of the Matt Millen era. I sat in the stands praying Desmond Howard would take every kick to the house because we had no chance outside of that. I bought a Joey Harrington jersey. I held up a "Got Mooch" sign. I thought Kevin Jones would keep getting better after his rookie season. I watched EVERY GAME of 0-16, though I have blocked a lot of it out like a childhood trauma. Oh sure, I said on the air I thought the Lions would win 10 games this year.

But even as I said it I felt like it was impossible. I only said it because it seemed to make "football sense." In my cold, cancerous, Lions fan heart I felt like it was a pipe dream. I would also like to date Eva Green.

So go ahead and talk about the season. Feel free, but my fellow Lions brethren are not listening to you. You talk about lack of discipline, stupid penalties and Suh stomps. Have that conversation with your hand, because we are not listening. Your sober consultation about secondary tackling issues could not be more banal and meaningless.

It all comes down to one win, at home against a worthy opponent. I don't care about anything except the Chargers.
Its all about Saturday, and I can't wait. I am going to sit in my endzone seat and its gonna be awesome. Oh sure, I lost my voice and hearing  at the Monday Night Game, but I will gladly donate both again.

Monday night was basically 60,000 people high-fiving each other and saying, "We don't suck!"  All I want for Christmas is a 10-win season, and Ford Field is with me. Plus, its a 4PM game, giving the crowd plenty of time to get lubed with holdiay cheer before the teams take the field.

It's going to be people spinning Santa hats and screaming through Egg Nog breath and I am going to love every freaking second of it. If it's your first game, bang on the plastic seat in front of you when you are screaming. That makes a lot of noise.

So shut your face with your nonsense talk about evaluating the team. Lions fans have been here a lot longer than the guys on the field, and we are on the doorstep of a 10-win season. If we have to drag these bums across the finish line ourselves, then so be it. The Lions fans are going to be there and we are going to be frothy. Yes, I know that they can still get in the playoffs without winning Saturday. Shut up.

Its all about Saturday. I have waited a decade for this.
