DTE Energy Notice Found In Rubble Of Detroit Home Following Explosion, Fire [PHOTOS]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities have yet to explain a curious discovery at the scene of a Detroit house explosion and fire that left a man seriously injured.

The explosion happened Wednesday evening, leveling a two-story brick apartment home on Margaret near John R and 7 Mile Road on the city's east side.  A man who lived in the home was reportedly moving out when the explosion and fire occurred. He was rushed to the hospital and last reported in critical condition.

A cause of the explosion remains under investigation, but an illegal hookup or natural gas leak have been suspected.

Among the rubble and debris left behind at the scene Thursday morning were several pieces of mail and notices scattered through the yard. One notice was from DTE Energy, which says crews were unable to access the home for a mandatory gas meter inspection.

The date and address on the notice were written in blue ink, but both are illegible from water used during firefighting efforts.

Authorities haven't yet said if there were any problems at the home regarding natural gas services.

An investigation is ongoing.
