DTE Energy Launches Corporate Responsibility Website

Detroit-based DTE Energy has launched a new website at www.dteenergy.com/cr that provides an overview of the company's corporate responsibility program and will track its progress in three broad areas: people, environment and economy.

"We've been practicing corporate responsibility for as long as our company has been around -- more than a century," said DTE Energy executive chairman Anthony F. Earley Jr.  "We are proud of our accomplishments. But we recognize we still have opportunities for improvement. We are committed to providing excellent service to our customers, supporting the communities we serve, protecting and enhancing the environment, helping to reinvigorate and reinvent the Michigan economy and providing a solid return to our shareholders. Our corporate responsibility reporting provides a way for our customers, shareholders and other stakeholders to monitor how we are meeting these commitments."

DTE Energy published its first corporate responsibility report in 2008. Sandy Ennis, DTE Energy vice president of corporate communications, notes that document was static and could not be updated to show progress.

"The new Web site provides the means for us to communicate in a 'live' manner about our sustainability efforts," Ennis said. "The Web site will be updated regularly with new features and material as our corporate responsibility story unfolds."

Along with the move to a Web-based platform, the company is for the first time publicly stating goals related to its social responsibility and sustainability efforts.

"Having measurable goals as part of our corporate responsibility Web site allows the public to see what we've accomplished and where we still have opportunities for improvement," said Skiles Boyd, DTE Energy vice president, Environmental Management and Resources. "We will update the progress we make toward achieving these goals at appropriate intervals throughout the year. Showing our goals and our progress toward meeting them will also put us more in line with what best-in-class companies are doing, and help others who review our efforts help us achieve our desires."

DTE Energy's operating units include Detroit Edison, an electric utility serving 2.1 million customers in Southeastern Michigan, MichCon, a natural gas utility serving 1.2 million customers in Michigan and other non-utility, energy businesses focused on gas storage and pipelines, unconventional gas production, power and industrial projects, and energy trading.
