DSO Performs At Edsel & Eleanor Ford House

GROSSE POINTE SHORES (WWJ) - The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will fill the air with sweet sounds of summer at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House for a weekend of concerts on July 8 and 9.

Classical and popular musical favorites will be performed along the Lake St. Clair shoreline, with the backdrop of the magnificent Ford House literally setting the stage, followed by a thrilling fireworks finale. Conductor Tito Muñoz will join the DSO on both evenings.

The entire grounds will be open to guests to walk or visit the gardens during the evening. Picnics are allowed, but alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Friday's performance features "A Night Of Louis Armstrong," where trumpeter Marcus Belgrave will join the DSO for a lively evening of some of Armstrong's greatest hits including: "What A Wonderful World," "Hello Dolly" and "Blue Berry Hill."

Saturday's performance features "A Midsummer Night's Dream," with classical music inspired by fairy tales, including Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Dukas' Sorcerer's Apprentice.

On both evenings, the grounds will open at 6:00 pm with the concert beginning at 8:30 pm, followed by fireworks at approximately 10:00 pm.

While tickets for Friday night's concert are sold out, a limited number of tickets are still available for Saturday's concert. Ticket prices start at $20 ($25 at the door) and can be purchased online, the DSO box office or by calling 313-576-5111.

The Edsel and Eleanor Ford House is located at 1100 Lake Shore Road in Grosse Pointe Shores. Parking is available on the grass lot directly across the street from Ford House for $2 per car.

In the event of a cancellation due to weather there will be a make-up concert on Sunday, July 10. If weather does not permit a concert on Sunday, Ford House tickets may be redeemed for a ticket to one of the DSO's regular season concerts between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011.
