DSO Offers Week Of Free Concerts

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is continuing its efforts to be one of the most accessible orchestras by presenting five free concerts through DSO Community Week from September 29 to October 2.

Concert performances will occur at locations in Troy, Ypsilanti, Woodhaven and Detroit, culminating in a special open house performance at Orchestra Hall.

Although tickets are free to all performances, in most cases reservations are required as space is limited.

DSO Maestro Leonard Slatkin said these complimentary concerts are a way to simultaneously say "thank you" to those patrons who are making the DSO a community-supported orchestra and share the orchestra's magnificent sound.

Concert repertoire will include classical favorites such as selections from Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, Dvorák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World," Weber's Overture to Oberon, Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and selections from Rodgers' & Hammerstein's Sound of Music.
