DPS Emergency Financial Manager Wants $400M From State

Detroit Public Schools Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb is looking for $400 million from the state.

However, WWJ's Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick is reporting that the state just doesn't have the money.

In a private letter and an outline of a proposal to Governor Granholm and Governor-elect Rick Snyder, Robert Bobb suggests using some of the U.S. tobacco settlement money - not only for the city of Detroit but the 40 other school districts around the state that are in dire financial shape.

Tim says that problem is going to get worse before it gets better.
That's because the current legislature will not have the time to deal with it; and probably not the will either.

Tim reports that he talked to Mr. Snyder briefly on Monday. He asked if the incoming governor had talked to Robert Bobb about the matter; Snyder said he had not.

Tim goes on to say that Snyder will get a look at the papers when he goes to Washington, DC, but it's a gigantic proposal and the tobacco money, the question is: "is there enough to go around to take care of 41 school districts that are all in deficit positions?"
