'Doc' Payne Seeks Laptops For The Troops
Northville dentist, computer hobbyist, military supporter and all-around-good-guy Jim Payne is at it again, this time helping out a platoon in Afghanistan get connected with the outside world through refurbished donated laptops.
Payne's JDS Computers accepts donations of desktops and laptops, cleans them up and ships them off. The desktops go to area schools, while the laptops are sent to American troops overseas -- where, at many bases, there is ample Internet connectivity, but no computers available for the troops to use to keep in touch with the folks back home.
Payne has sent a couple of laptop computers to this platoon in Afghanistan.
And there is always a need for more donated machines. Check out Payne's Web site at http://jdscomputers.netfirms.com/.
