Detroit's CFO Resigns After Comments About Shooting Someone In A Hoodie

DETROIT (WWJ) - After calls for him to step down for alleged racially insensitive comments, Detroit's Chief Financial Officer has resigned.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis reports that a subordinate worker claimed that Jim Bonsall asked during an Angel's Night meeting about whether he would be able to shoot someone in a hoodie while on anti-arson patrol in Detroit.

Bonsall publically apologized for the comments made during the Angel's Night campaign meeting.

Kevyn Orr's office launched an investigation while city council and folks like the National Action Network Detroit Chapter called for Bonsall to step down.

Rev. Charles Williams is with the National Action Network:

"It was our immediate call for him to resign and quite frankly we don't need anybody else within the emergency manager's staff or the city of Detroit's staff that don't care to be a public servent," said Rev. Williams.

"For the statement to be as racist as it was just kind of to us says, 'hey, this person doesn't deserve to be on the public dollar,'" he said.

Orr says Bonsall decided it is best for the city and himself that he resign his post effective immediately.
