Detroit Red Wings Notes And Quotes 10-17-11
--Fabian Brunnstrom has been a healthy scratch the first four games because of the club's depth at forward. But coach Mike Babcock has high hopes for him, saying he has the potential to be a top-six forward because of his skills and scoring ability. Brunnstrom said he can't complain about sitting out, after earning a one-year contract on Oct. 3 following a good showing in the preseason while on a tryout.
--Mike Commodore's preseason knee injury might have cost him a regular spot in the lineup. Young Jakub Kindl has stepped in and grabbed the job, turning in a solid early-season performance. Kindl has been solid in his own zone and leads the team with a plus-6 rating. Commodore might be ready to play later this month, but the job as the sixth defenseman appears to be Kindl's to lose.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"The guys did a great job in front of me all night long. We played a lot in their end and generated a lot of opportunities. Even when they had the lead, we kept battling, kept getting pucks to the net and retrieving them." -- Wings G Jimmy Howard, on Saturday's 3-2 overtime win at Minnesota.
