Detroit Officials Issue Statement on Power Outage

Following numerous phone calls and emails to Detroit officials and getting no response, the WWJ newsroom finally received the following message in an email regarding the massive power outage that struck the city Saturday. The email came from Communications Manager Dan Lijana.

"Three tie lines were damaged as a result of the heat, causing the
power outage. The repair status for each is listed below. As new
information becomes available, we will issue further updates.

The first tie line will be turned on around noon today after more
required testing. The second tie line requires 320 ft. of new cable,
which is currently being installed. A third failure was located last
night requiring delivery and installation of 360 feet of new cable."

WWJ's Beth Fisher took a picture of this sign posted at the Greektown People Mover station. The People Mover was closed as a result of the power outage.
