Crash Kills Ingham Deputy During Vehicle Chase

STOCKBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A sheriff's deputy has been killed after crashing his patrol vehicle during a chase.

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth says 25-year-old Grant Whitaker died early Sunday morning southeast of Lansing in Stockbridge Township.

Wriggelsworth says Whitaker's vehicle left the roadway sometime after 2 a.m. and hit a tree. The vehicle he was chasing had not been located by early afternoon.

Whitaker had been a sheriff's deputy for a year and a half. The crash is being investigated by the state police.
