Border Patrol Launching Hiring Drive
DETROIT (WWJ) - The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol has launched a massive hiring drive. During a recruitment effort in Detroit, agent Sergio Segovia reported that 80,000 applicants are being sought.
Segovia says the agency wants men and women who are highly motivated.
"Your basic requirements for border control agent: You have to be between the ages of 18 - 40. For people who are over the age of forty, there is a waiver for prior military, prior federal law enforcement," said Segovia.
A number of people stopped by to collect information about the job. One potential applicant, whose name is Dzenis, says he wants a career in law enforcement. He thinks he's got what it takes to do the job.
"I believe, like, when you are protecting a border like that you really have to be alert, and when it comes to that you have to keep your eyes open, your mind opened," said Dzenis.
You must be able to pass a background check, drug test and have no domestic violence convictions. Most new agents will be posted along the southwestern border in states like Texas and California.
