Bloomfield Township police search for 8 people caught on camera stealing 113 items from Dick's Sporting Goods

The Bloomfield Township Police Department is investigating after eight people were caught on camera stealing dozens of clothing items from the shelves at a Dick's Sporting Goods.

Police say that on July 19, 2026, the three females and five males entered the store in the 2100 block of S. Telegraph at about 5:15 p.m. Police say individuals whose identities are currently unknown stole 113 items valued at $10,800.

Bloomfield Township police released footage of the retail theft, asking for the public's help in identifying the group.

Community Relations Officer Heather Glowacz says their investigative team is fully equipped to find these shoplifters and says they have already received some helpful tips. But at times, she says it's hard catching those who steal, with each store having different theft policies.

"A lot of retail stores have policies where they are not allowed to intervene, and that does affect the ability of the police to assist because if the store allows them to detain them, however, then we could get there and arrest the people, but they cannot detain them or stop them their lays the problem for us," Glowacz said.

While Glowacz says those who shoplift often do it over and over again, if they are caught, it's a felony and could be on their record for life.  

"If you want to do something where you need a background check done, you might not get the job because of something you did when you were young, when you weren't thinking things through," she said.
