Bird Didn't 'Fly The Coop' From Detroit Zoo
DETROIT (WWJ) - A WWJ traffic tipster called in with a tall tail Tuesday .... a really tall tail or possibly just a feathered story.
The tipster said they saw a peacock near the Lodge and I-94 in Detroit and wondered if the Detroit Zoo was missing a bird.
WWJ spoke with an unnamed official from the zoo who said all of their birds were accounted for, but added that it could be a privately owned bird. While the birds' wingspan does allow it to fly - it does so rather close to the ground and for short distances.
Peacocks are exotic birds and while ownership is legal - your neighbors may not be too happy about their early morning screeching habits. Ownership or the prohibition of ownership of these exotic pets may also fall under your city ordinance.
