Bing Grants Council's Request To See Detailed Plan
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Mayor Bing's administration has delivered nine huge binders to City Council detailing his five-year plan for eliminating the city's structural deficit.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Florence Walton reports that City Council members requested to see the same plan Bing sent to Lansing, threatening a subpoena of the Mayor did not comply.
City Council President Charles Pugh said the threat of an Emergency Manager taking over Detroit is real.
"In order to make decisions about restructuring our government, then we need a real plan. We need to see what the vision is," Pugh said.
"We need to read it, critique it, hold it up, see if this is good, see what needs to be changed. It's easier to do that when you have a narrative, versus just a bunch of numbers," he said.
Council was initially given only a five-page financial summary of Bing's plan.
In an announcement last week, Bing said his plan is a "strategic approach" to bringing stability to the city and must be done to "ensure Detroit's survival."
