Best Banana Bread In Metro Detroit

The smell of fresh-baked banana bread is irresistible, yet banana bread can sometimes be hard to find in stores and/or bakeries. Check out this list for the best banana bread in the Detroit area.
The Potato Place
107 W. Warren Ave.
Detroit, MI 48201

Although it's known more for its gigantic potatoes than for its baked goods, Potato Place does sell baked goods, which it bakes daily for ultimate freshness. "Dessert Quick Breads" are $1.75 each, and the baked goods menu ranges from brownies ($1.75) to cheesecake ($2.50) to lunch croissants ($3.75). Potato Place's menu also has a wide array of sandwiches, salads, subs and soups. Make sure to bring cash too, because the restaurant does not take credit cards.

3711 Plaza Drive
Ann Arbor, MI 48108

www.zingermansbakehouse.com

So you've been to the Zingerman Deli and maybe even the Roadhouse, but have you been to the Bakehouse? Zingerman's name is synonymous with quality, so it comes as no surprise that they have a bakehouse where they make breads, desserts and cookies daily. Their banana bread can even be bought online if you don't want to make the trek to Ann Arbor, and the bread is made of sweet butter, eggs, bananas and chunks of Belgian dark chocolate. The Bakehouse is located south of 94 near Briarwood Mall.

If you like your banana bread in bread pudding form, check out Steve's Soul Food, located downtown near the riverfront in the historic warehouse district. $3.29 will get you some bread pudding for dessert, and you can also choose from the banana pudding ($1.99 for a small, $2.99 for a large size). The restaurant was opened in 1986 by Steve Radden, a retired Detroit police officer, and it now offers catering too. After you enjoy your banana bread pudding, check out the Key Club, Steve's lounge and bar, which is located upstairs from the restaurant.

Northville, MI 48167

rebeccasfamilyrestaurant.com

Not only can you get banana bread with your meal at Rebecca's Family Restaurant, but actual grilled banana nut bread is available, an interesting combination. The banana nut bread ($2.65) is available as a side dish to any meal, and because it's grilled, it's crispy on top and chewy in the middle. If you want something more sugary to cap off your meal, try the banana royale sundae, which includes vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, bananas, nuts and whipped cream. Rebecca's started off as Cloverdale Dairy Farms, in 1932, and on January 1, 1998, the Family Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor took over the name.
