Battle Brewing Over Detroit's Public Access Channel
A battle is brewing over what makes the airwaves at Detroit's Public Access channel.
It's a move that could set up a showdown with the mayor's office over Channel 10. City Council President Charles Pugh is expected to introduce an ordinance Tuesday "that says that the City Council has to be broadcast five days a week. We didn't want it to get to this point. We tried to negotiate where we would share the airspace with the mayor and council," Pugh told WWJ's Citybeat Reporter Vickie Thomas.

Currently, the council is on Channel 10 two days a week.
"The public should have the right to see every word spoken, from gavel to gavel," Pugh added.
The mayor's director of Communications, Karen Dumas, says it was the Cable Commission that voted to reduce Council's time on the channel. She also says Council's priorities appear to be misaligned.
