Bloomfield Doctor Wins Spine Care Technology Award: Medical Main Street's Dr. Mick Perez-Cruet received the top award at the North American Spine Society Meeting last week held in Chicago, Ill. The Award for "Best New Technology For Spine Care in 2011" was given to Perez for his patented new, BoneBac technology that uses the patients' own bone matter from the surgery, compresses it together and is inserted back into the patient during the procedure. This saves the hospital money in buying artificial bone, which is expensive, and the patient heals faster and easier because there is no foreign material in their body. It's basically their bone being repurposed during that surgery. Perez-Cruet's company, MI4Spine, located in Michigan's Medical Main Street region is the owner of this patent. Perez-Cruet, is a practicing surgeon at William Beaumont Hospital and is also vice-chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Oakland University's New William Beaumont School of Medicine.
