Awards And Certifications From April 16

Delphi Wins PACE Award for Diesel Common Rail Technology: Delphi Automotive (NYSE: DLPH) was awarded an Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence) Award for the Delphi F2e Ultra High Pressure Heavy Duty Diesel Common Rail System. The company now has 16 PACE awards – more than any other company. Additionally, Delphi was a finalist in the product category for the MyFi Connected Navigation Radio and Vehicle Sound Generator and the Gen 4 Pressure Sensor in the manufacturing process category. Presented annually, the PACE award recognizes superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance by automotive suppliers. Judging is independent and performed by distinguished and highly experienced industry representatives focused on real-world benefits. The Delphi F2e Ultra High Pressure Heavy Duty Diesel Common Rail System is one of a modular family of diesel fuel injection systems developed by Delphi engineers to address the future needs of heavy-duty truck engines. The injection systems provide high pressure performance (up to 3,000 bar) in conjunction with precise injection quantity control to help meet tomorrow's stringent emissions targets. The flexible package of F2e offers a compact, modular and integrated high pressure common rail system, while the high-efficiency and low parasitic losses help maximize fuel efficiency, leading to a direct fuel saving benefit to the end user. Delphi's Vehicle Sound Generators enable pedestrians to detect nearly silent hybrid and electric vehicles and allow automakers to meet upcoming global government safety legislation for EV/HEVs. Delphi's single-box vehicle sound generator is approximately three times lighter than a conventional multi-box system and uses 90 percent less power, making it the most environmentally friendly solution available. Delphi's innovative sound generator will be featured on hybrid and electric vehicles from six leading global OEMs for models sold in Europe and in Asia. The Delphi MyFi Connected Navigation Radio (CNR) is a feature-rich, embedded infotainment system designed to allow vehicle manufacturers to differentiate their brands through entertainment, information and communication. Since its initial product launch on the 2011 Audi A1, the MyFi CNR platform has been adopted on several Audi models. The first generation of Delphi's Pressure Sensor was the size of a standard computer mouse when first launched and required separate production lines for each model. Today, the sensor's programmable active component is miniaturized to the size of a pea. As a result, the manufacturing floor space has been reduced by 80 percent and the product runs on a single production line with a large array of end models all customized to meet a diversified customer base. Continental Short Range Radar, Tire Pressure Monitor Win 2013 Automotive News PACE Award: The auto supplier Continental said Tuesday it has received the 2013 Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers Contribution to Excellence) Award for its 24GHZ ISM Band Short Range Radar system, a component of the company's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems business unit. The SRR package features two smart sensors with integrated Electronic Control Unit mounted to the vehicle's rear quarter and corner panels. The sensors can distinguish between traffic and infrastructure and alert drivers to the presence of relevant objects within the detection zone. In production with several automakers, the radar features Blind Spot Detection to warn the driver when there are vehicles in the blind spot of the side-view mirror, Lane Change Assist which warns the driver for unsafe lane changes when traffic is approaching from behind and Rear Cross Traffic Alert which could help to avoid accidents when reversing out of a parking space, with the ability to accommodate additional driver assistance functions in the future. Also winning was the Continental LocSync Tire Pressure Monitoring Sytsem, which combines Continental's tire pressure monitoring expertise with wheel speed sensor information from existing control systems. Continental's tire pressure monitoring with LocSync software provides the driver with exact information about the individual tire pressures and alerts the driver, via in-dash display, of the precise location and specific details of a low pressure tire.  Its use of existing vehicle technology reduces weight, cost and keeps changing of TPMS-equipped tires an easy task for repair facilities. New tires and sensors are identified by the system automatically after just a few minutes of driving.

Grand Valley Named To Green Colleges List: Grand Valley State University has been named one of the country's most environmentally responsible colleges by The Princeton Review for the fourth year in a row. The university is included in "The Princeton Review's Guide to 322 Green Colleges: 2013 Edition." Released just prior to the April 22 celebration of the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day, the guide profiles institutions of higher education in the U.S. that demonstrate notable commitments to sustainability in campus infrastructure, activities, programs and initiatives. Areas of evaluation included the university's commitment to building at LEED standards, environmental programs, the use of renewable energy resources and recycling and conservation programs. Grand Valley has been included in the guidebook every year since the first issue was published in 2010. This is the latest recognition Grand Valley has received for its sustainability efforts. Grand Valley became the only university in the state and one of 45 in the country to receive gold status after completing a sustainability program developed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, and the Sierra Club ranked the university 16th out of 96 schools as one of the country's greenest universities in 2012.
