Authorities: Man Threatened To Kill Deputies After Crash Into Gate At Oakland County Jail

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A Brandon Township man is behind bars after authorities say he crashed his car into a gate at the Oakland County Jail and then threatened deputies.

Sheriff's officials say, shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the 41-year-old drove his car into the jail loading dock gate where he struck a gate, just north of the employee parking lot.

The man got out of his car and allegedly began yelling at corrections officers, saying that he was going to kill them. He got back in to his vehicle and drove off, but — after a BOL (be on the lookout) was issued, he was tracked down a short distance away and arrested by Waterford Township police.

Then he was turned over to deputies at the Pontiac Substation, the man was allegedly found to be in possession of several prescription pill bottles. Also in the suspect's vehicle were butterfly knife and a throwing star commonly used in martial arts.

Suspected to driving under the influence of drugs, the man was taken to McLaren Hospital for a blood draw. Sheriff's officials say he was eventually " cleared for incarceration" back at the Oakland County Jail where he remained Wednesday morning, awaiting formal charges for operating a vehicle in the presence of drugs and malicious destruction of property.

His name will be released following an arraignment.

Sheriff's officials say the loading dock gate suffered only minor damage in the incident. No one was injured.

An investigation is ongoing.
