Adams Fire Station Houses 9/11 Memorial
BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - A piece of steel from the World Trade Center now sits inside the Adams Fire Station in Birmingham as a memorial to the attacks on September 11th.
Lilly Epstein -Stotland , who's now with Vesco Oil in Southfield, worked to bring the memorial here. She was working in lower Manhattan ten years ago on September 11th and saw the second plane go by her office window near the twin towers.
"We were evacuated multiple times that morning and found myself with along hundreds of others trapped in the basement of our building for several hours. Air was filling with smoke. A colleague and I eventually left sometime later arm in arm and the scene outside was just so indescribable....absolute blackness," said Epstein-Stotland.
Epstein-Stotland says Terrence Adderly, Jr., a classmate of hers at Detroit Country Day, died in the World Trade Center. She says the memorial is helping her in the healing process.
