5 Michigan Sites Get National Recognition For Historical Value

DETROIT (AP) -- The National Park Service is adding five Michigan sites to the National Register of Historic Places, including a former Detroit TV studio.

MLive.com and the Detroit Free Press report other structures approved last month for addition to the list included the Pontchartrain Club-Town House Apartments in downtown Detroit and the Professional Plaza Tower, also known as the Hammer and Nail building.

The downtown historic district in Clare and Bewabic Park near Crystal Falls in the Upper Peninsula also were among those listed.

WJBK-TV's Studio Building was home to several popular shows, including "Sagebrush Shorty" and "Sir Graves Ghastly." The nominations were submitted by the Michigan's State Historic Preservation Office. Listing can offer access to federal preservation grants and tax credits.
